Alamodome events since 1993
The Alamodome opened on May 15, 1993, as a major gathering place for San Antonio. The City of San Antonio owns and operates the building, which combines the scale of a domed stadium with the flexibility of a convention venue. Its column-free interior accommodates both sporting occasions and large exhibitions.
Populous, Marmon Mok and W.E. Simpson Company are credited in the venue's architectural team. That multipurpose brief remains central to the building: the same large indoor space has hosted competitions, trade shows, ice entertainment and live music, with the arrangement changing according to the event.
UTSA football and the Alamo Bowl
UTSA Roadrunners football calls the Alamodome home. The university played its first game here against Northeastern State on September 3, 2011, beginning a new chapter in the stadium's sporting history. The annual Alamo Bowl brings another college-football occasion to the venue.
Before the Roadrunners arrived, the Alamodome was the San Antonio Spurs' home from 1993 to 2002. Basketball therefore forms an important part of its past, even though a UTSA home match and the Alamo Bowl use the building for football.
Different seating plans for different events
The venue provides separate seating charts for a broad range of configurations:
- UTSA football and the Alamo Bowl each have their own published map.
- Basketball and volleyball use sport-specific charts.
- Monster-truck events have a separate arena arrangement.
- Ice shows and marching-band competitions also have dedicated plans.
These configurations explain the Alamodome's versatility. A football field, basketball court, ice-show floor and marching-band performance occupy the central event space in different ways. The seating chart for the selected event gives the relevant arrangement rather than a single plan covering every visit.
Stadium concert heritage
Paul McCartney launched the venue's stadium-concert programme on May 29, 1993. Later performers included George Strait, Garth Brooks, Elton John and Metallica. The dome's event history also includes boxing, international soccer and WWE Royal Rumble. For other music destinations, explore concerts on TixChoice.
Arriving at the Alamodome
The address is 100 Montana Street, San Antonio. The venue publishes road-approach maps for the surrounding interstate routes, with access to its parking areas from the streets around the building.
