American Airlines Center Dallas Tickets

American Airlines Center events in Victory Park

American Airlines Center opened in 2001 as the shared home of the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars. Its development brought a major sports venue into Victory Park, transforming former industrial and railway land near downtown Dallas.

The arena was designed by David M. Schwarz Architects with HKS. Its double-barrel-vaulted roof creates a recognisable profile against the skyline, while the façades break the large building into smaller elements facing the surrounding streets. The design connected the arena with the West End, downtown and nearby neighbourhoods.

Basketball, hockey and a flexible seating bowl

A retractable seating system allows the building to change between basketball, hockey and concert arrangements. HKS designed the conversion so that the Mavericks and Stars could both stage home games on the same day, giving the shared venue practical flexibility.

The arena publishes separate seating maps for basketball, hockey and concerts. Premium levels, suites and lounge spaces sit around the main bowl, providing different settings within the same building rather than requiring separate venues for its two principal sports.

Four lobbies and a civic interior

Instead of a single undifferentiated circulation loop, the architects organised the concourses into linked rooms and connectors. Four principal lobbies define the building's sides, with different views towards the city helping visitors recognise their position inside.

Natural light enters through those lobbies. Terrazzo floors incorporate artist panels, while the public spaces were designed with the proportions and finishes of a civic building as well as a sports arena. These features give the interior an identity beyond the playing floor.

Major sporting and entertainment occasions

The venue has hosted NBA Finals games, the NHL All-Star Game, NCAA men's tournament basketball and the NCAA Women's Final Four. Concerts and ice shows form another part of its programme, alongside the regular Mavericks and Stars seasons.

Arriving by rail or road

The arena is at 2500 Victory Avenue, north of Dallas' central business district and historic West End. Victory Station is across the street from the west entrance, serving DART's Green and Orange lines and the Trinity Railway Express.

The regional rail route connects Dallas and Fort Worth, while DART provides links across the city. The station's terracotta details were themselves inspired by the arena and the West End's warehouse architecture, extending the design connection into the arrival route.
