A Foxborough stadium with New England roots

Gillette Stadium is home to the New England Patriots and Major League Soccer's New England Revolution. Construction began in 2000, and building it meant demolishing the old Foxboro Stadium and its race track, whose materials were repurposed into the new venue. It opened in 2002.

Populous architects led the original design, using natural granite outcroppings to shape the west concourse and playing field in a split-level layout. A bridge and lighthouse were built in to reflect New England's coastal history. The Kraft family privately financed the construction and later renovations.

The lighthouse and the reimagined north end

Unveiled in 2023, the north end project brought the most dramatic changes since opening. Its centerpiece is a 218-foot, 22-story lighthouse that towers over the 16-story stadium, and the venue describes it as the tallest lighthouse in the United States. A 360-degree observation deck, open to guests year-round, looks out over Foxborough center to the Boston and Providence skylines.

The project also added the north end videoboard, the largest outdoor curved-radius videoboard at a sports venue in the country, which pairs with a south end zone board installed in 2021. The north end also holds the G-P Atrium, overlooking the field and the largest Patriots game-day hospitality space opened since 2002.

On game days, the lighthouse is a focal point for celebratory moments. Keeper of the Light, introduced at the start of the 2023 season, has a guest ring a fog bell that echoes the warning bells of New England's historic lighthouses. Tom Brady was the first to ring it.

Gillette Stadium seating plan and levels

Sections are grouped by level, and each area has a distinct setting:

• 100 and 200 levels: served by the Main Concourse.
• 300 level: served by the Upper Concourse, which gained east-to-west connectivity in the north end renovation.
• Cross Insurance Club: east and west clubs running along both sidelines, each larger than a football field, with three-story ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass giving end-zone-to-end-zone views, and premium outdoor seats.
• Bank of America Luxury Suite Levels: private suites linked to the clubs and upper concourse through the north end spaces, which give every level 360-degree connectivity.

Seating charts vary for concerts and other events, so the event-specific map is the one to follow.

Gillette Stadium events beyond football

The stadium's playing surface is FieldTurf. The stadium has also hosted international soccer matches, NCAA athletics and high school football state championships, and staged the NHL Winter Classic in 2016. Billboard has listed it among the world's top-grossing concert venues, and past headliners include Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Coldplay.
