Golden 1 Center events and Sacramento's arena story

Golden 1 Center opened in 2016 as the Sacramento Kings' new home. Its development followed Vivek Ranadivé's purchase of the team in 2013 and a commitment to keep the franchise in California's capital with a new arena. The building became a gathering place for basketball, concerts and community events in downtown Sacramento.

The horseshoe bowl and open concourses

AECOM designed a two-deck, horseshoe-shaped seating bowl, placing lofts and suites between the decks. Large, aircraft-hangar-style doors can open the arena towards the city and the Delta Breeze, making the relationship between the interior and its surroundings part of the architecture.

The two public concourses provide views towards the court and through windows towards Sacramento. A skybridge occupies the open end of the horseshoe, while the upper-level concourse includes the Sierra Nevada Draught House. Club and suite spaces are integrated into the bowl rather than housed in a separate building.

Sustainability, art and the arena experience

Golden 1 Center received LEED Platinum certification, with environmental design central to the project. Its ventilation system supplies conditioned air from beneath the seats, and its large high-definition scoreboard forms a prominent part of the basketball presentation.

Public art appears around the concourses and elsewhere in the venue. The collection includes a permanently displayed work by Jeff Koons. The arena also won Sports Business Journal's Sports Facility of the Year award in 2017, recognising its early impact as a sports venue.

In 2018 the Kings opened a sensory room on the Event Level. Its design incorporated textured walls, specialised furniture and calming features to create a quieter environment for visitors with sensory needs. That addition forms another part of the arena's history beyond the playing court itself.

Music and travel in downtown Sacramento

Past performers include Paul McCartney, Elton John, Janet Jackson and Bruno Mars. The arena's concert programme sits alongside Kings basketball and other sporting occasions; more music destinations appear on the TixChoice concert page.

SacRT light rail serves stations close to the arena. Roseville Transit also operates a Game Day Express for Kings home games, providing a connection from Roseville. The venue's directions page brings together those transit options and the city's SacPark parking information.
