Lumen Field Seattle Tickets

From Seahawks Stadium to Lumen Field

In 1996 Paul G. Allen secured an option to buy the Seattle Seahawks and sought public support for a new football and soccer stadium. In June 1997 Washington voters approved Referendum 48, the “Save Our Seahawks” measure. That vote triggered Allen’s purchase of the team and created the Washington State Public Stadium Authority to own the facility. The authority partnered with First & Goal to design, build and operate an open-air stadium planned for NFL football, international soccer and the expected expansion of MLS.

The Event Center opened first, in 1998, followed by the stadium on July 20, 2002. The Seahawks began that year’s preseason against the Indianapolis Colts in what was then Seahawks Stadium. The stadium was renamed Qwest Field in 2004, CenturyLink Field in 2011 and Lumen Field in November 2020.

Architecture and the Kingdome Legacy

Ellerbe Becket designed the stadium in association with LMN Architects, and Turner Construction Company was the general contractor. The Kingdome lives on in the building: 97% of its concrete was recycled, and some went into Lumen Field. The soccer field meets NFL, MLS and World Cup field and sight-line requirements. Although the stadium is open air, its roof protects 70 percent of seats. Susan Point, James Lavadour and Peter Shelton are among the artists credited at the stadium.

Lumen Field Seating Plan and Signature Spaces

• Hawks Nest: This iconic section swapped its benches for individual seats with backs in 2026 for the FIFA World Cup. The new seats are arranged to form a hawk’s eye design.
• Cityside Bars: Added in 2022 beneath the Hawks Nest, this covered, open-air space is open to all fans on gameday. It has lower-level field views, two 40-foot-wide bars and a gas fireplace.
• Toyota Fan Deck: Built in 2015, it added padded seats in two sections at the south end summit level. A video board above the deck shows in-game stats.
• Premium spaces: Suites span the Suite, Club and Red Zone levels. The T-Mobile Endzone holds The 1976 Club’s semi-private loge boxes. The members-only EQC Tunnel Club opened in 2023 and sits in the southwest field tunnel.

Lumen Field Events and Heritage

The Seahawks share the stadium with MLS side Seattle Sounders FC and the NWSL’s Seattle Reign FC. NWSL soccer arrived in December 2021, when OL Reign was added as a home team. Super Bowl XLVIII Roman numerals were installed in the northwest corner in 2014. In 2022 Lumen Field was announced as a 2026 FIFA World Cup host venue.

Past stadium concerts include Beyoncé, Metallica, the Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift and U2. U2’s 2011 show was the stadium’s largest-attended event of its first two decades. Monster Jam, Supercross, international soccer and consumer shows have also used the venue.
