Philadelphia Eagles tickets and the club’s origins

The Eagles began in 1933 under a group headed by Bert Bell and Lud Wray. Their early history includes an unusual wartime chapter: in 1943, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh combined their teams because of player shortages during the Second World War. The joint side was known as Phil-Pitt or the Steagles, with Greasy Neale and Walt Kiesling sharing coaching duties. It existed for a single season before the Eagles resumed their separate identity.

The championship teams of 1948 and 1949

Philadelphia's first NFL titles came in consecutive seasons under Greasy Neale. In 1948, the Eagles beat the Chicago Cardinals 7-0 at a snow-covered Shibe Park. Steve Van Buren scored the only touchdown, while the defence held the Cardinals scoreless. The following year's final took place on a rain-soaked Los Angeles Coliseum field, where Philadelphia defeated the Rams 14-0.

Van Buren again led the attack in the second championship game. The back-to-back teams later entered the Eagles Hall of Fame together in 1999. Their story reflects the post-war generation of players: many had returned from military service and were rebuilding ordinary lives alongside professional football. The club's account remembers this group as the duffel-bag dynasty.

From NFL titles to the Super Bowl era

The championship record also includes 1960, followed much later by the Eagles' first Super Bowl victory after the 2017 season. That Super Bowl LII win came against the New England Patriots. Another championship followed after the 2024 season in Super Bowl LIX, adding a second Super Bowl to Philadelphia's earlier NFL honours.

A new ownership chapter

Jeffrey Lurie bought the franchise on May 6, 1994. During the era that followed, the Eagles reached Super Bowls XXXIX, LII, LVII and LIX. The two championship wins came with different head coaches. Those appearances connect the team's modern story across several generations, extending the championship history established decades earlier by Neale, Van Buren and their team-mates.

Lincoln Financial Field and its development

Lincoln Financial Field has itself evolved through substantial renovation. A stadium revitalisation carried out between 2012 and 2014 added two video boards, continuous LED ribbon displays and two upper-concourse bridges. Club and suite areas were also improved. The bridges and concourse connections are part of how the building developed around an existing football bowl.

The Eagles' Go Green programme began in 2003. Lincoln Financial Field subsequently earned LEED Silver certification in 2013, Gold in 2018 and Platinum in 2024. The sequence records changes made to an operating stadium, with sustainability becoming part of the club's broader approach to its home. The venue also developed a sensory room through its partnership with KultureCity.

Choosing an Eagles game
