Prudential Center Newark Tickets

Prudential Center events at The Rock

Prudential Center opened in downtown Newark in October 2007 and is nicknamed The Rock. Alongside concerts, family shows and special events, it is home to the three-time Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils, Seton Hall University's NCAA Division I men's basketball program and the Professional Women's Hockey League's New York Sirens.

From the Meadowlands to Newark

The move gave Devils fans a building of their own. One supporter recalled the pleasure, after years at Continental, of seeing the team's banners up and red and black everywhere. Jay Pandolfo had won two Stanley Cups with the club at the Meadowlands.

Opening night was bumpy. Fire alarms kept fans outside longer than expected, and the Devils lost 4-1 to the Ottawa Senators. Their only goal bounced in off a penalty killer and was credited to Brian Gionta. The second game made history: a 6-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, the club's first home victory in the arena, with Pandolfo scoring the building's first hat trick, the only one of his career.

Basketball and music heritage

Beyond Seton Hall's home games, the arena has staged NCAA Tournament basketball. It hosted the 2011 East Regional, when No. 4 Kentucky beat No. 2 North Carolina in the regional final. In 2020 the NCAA named it, with host institution Seton Hall, as the 2025 East Regional site.

In 2019 and 2020 the arena also hosted the 2019 MTV VMAs and acts including Cher, Elton John, Celine Dion, BLACKPINK and Fleetwood Mac. Its October 2018 lineup, described as one of its busiest months to that point, included Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, the Eagles and Phil Collins.

Scoreboard, museum and premium spaces

In October 2017 the arena and LED company Trans-Lux unveiled what they called the world's largest in-arena, center-hung scoreboard. It is almost four stories tall with nearly 30 million pixels. That month the GRAMMY Museum Experience Prudential Center also opened as the first GRAMMY Museum outpost on the East Coast, spotlighting GRAMMY winners from New Jersey. It later housed "Whitney!", an exhibition on Newark native Whitney Houston.

The William Hill Sports Lounge opened with a ribbon cutting before a Devils home game in December 2018. More recent renovations added premium spaces, Levy Restaurants as hospitality partner and cashless, touchless purchasing. Front Office Sports cited these upgrades when it named Prudential Center one of ten winners of its inaugural Best Venues Award.
