Snapdragon Stadium events at SDSU Mission Valley

Snapdragon Stadium brings college football, professional soccer and live entertainment together at San Diego State University's Mission Valley development. The venue is owned by SDSU and is home to Aztec Football, San Diego FC and San Diego Wave FC.

The university marked completion of construction with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in August 2022. The stadium was the first completed phase of the Mission Valley Innovation Campus, creating a sports and entertainment anchor for the university's new district west of its main campus.

A design shaped by San Diego

Gensler designed the stadium around open-air circulation, landscaped concourses and native planting. Instead of enclosing every route behind the seating, the design connects the event spaces with the surrounding landscape. The building achieved LEED Gold certification, bringing environmental design into the wider Mission Valley project.

The bowl combines a student section with safe-standing areas, regular reserved seating and premium locations close to the field. Elevated decks extend over the seating, creating communal spaces at different heights. The design treats these social areas as part of the stadium experience rather than limiting every viewing position to a conventional row.

The Sycuan Piers and premium spaces

The Sycuan Piers are among the stadium's most recognisable features. Inspired by San Diego's coastline, portions of the piers project towards the field. Their stepped, elevated position gives this part of the ground a distinct relationship with the playing surface.

The venue also lists the Sycuan Founders Club and the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Club among its named spaces. The latter connects directly with the main concourse and seating bowl. West of the stadium, Kaiser Permanente Thrive Park provides an outdoor setting within the broader venue complex.

Football, soccer and concert configurations

The building was designed for uses beyond college football. Its published seating plans distinguish general stadium seating from end-stage and centre-stage concert arrangements. The architects also planned for temporary seating to support larger entertainment and international sporting productions.

That flexibility sits alongside the venue's regular sports identities: university football, Major League Soccer and National Women's Soccer League matches. Concerts, festivals and community events form another part of its remit. For more music destinations, explore concerts on TixChoice.

Reaching Mission Valley

The stadium address is 2101 Stadium Way, San Diego. Its travel information includes public transport, cycling and road approaches, with bicycle racks around the north and east sides of the venue. The Mission Valley setting places the stadium within the university's wider campus development.
