York Barbican Centre events and programme
York Barbican is the largest music and arts venue in York, and its programme ranges across comedy, live bands, sport, family shows and community events. That mix means one hall can switch between very different kinds of night.

Inside the auditorium
The auditorium is the largest indoor seating space in York. Seating is spread across two levels, Stalls and Balcony, and both are reached step-free, with a lift serving the first floor.
Versatility shaped the design. The Stalls seating is retractable and the staging is flexible, so the room can be reconfigured for exhibitions and conferences as well as seated performances.

The front of the Stalls changes with the layout: the first row is row A or, on some configurations, row AA, and row BB may also be present. Rows A, AA and BB give level access. From row B upwards, every row involves two shallow steps.
Balcony seating
On the Balcony, row A offers level access, while row B and above again involve two shallow steps per row. Wheelchair spaces on this level sit in the slips.

Standard seats on both levels have armrests fixed in place. The widest seats are:
- Stalls row N, seats 1-14 and 40-53
- Balcony row E, seats 1-13 and 38-50
Accessibility
There is step-free access into the auditorium, meeting rooms and bars. Wheelchair spaces in the Stalls are on whichever of row A or row AA forms the front row. A Sennheiser hearing assistance system is available, with packs from the Box Office or a steward; it will not work with standard hearing aids without a pack.
