Florida Panthers tickets and the club's origins
The Florida Panthers have a franchise date of June 14, 1993, and played their first NHL season in 1993-94. That year H. Wayne Huizenga obtained the franchise, which also started the search for a new arena. Huizenga owned the club from 1993-01, and his number 37 is retired. Number 93 is retired for William A. Torrey, who served as president, governor and alternate governor from 1993-18.
Miami Arena hosted the early Panthers from 1993 to 1998. There, in October 1995, a locker-room rat killed by Scott Mellanby led fans to start throwing rubber rats to celebrate goals.
Captains across the eras
Brian Skrudland was the club's first captain, from 1993-94 to 1996-97. Mellanby followed from 1997-98 to 2000-01. Pavel Bure and Paul Laus shared the role in 2001-02, and Olli Jokinen led the team from 2003-04 to 2007-08. Bryan McCabe, Ed Jovanovski, Willie Mitchell and Derek MacKenzie came next, and Aleksander Barkov was named captain in 2018-19.
Goaltender Roberto Luongo had two spells in Florida, in 2000-06 and 2014-19. His number 1 is retired.
Back-to-back Stanley Cups
Paul Maurice became head coach in October 2022, and the club's defining era followed. In 2023-24 the Panthers finished first in the Atlantic Division with 110 points. They went on to win the Stanley Cup, beating the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in the Final.
They repeated the feat in 2024-25. After finishing third in the Atlantic with 98 points, Florida beat Edmonton 4-2 in the Final. That made the Panthers the 10th franchise in NHL history to repeat as Stanley Cup champions.
Amerant Bank Arena, built against the clock
The Panthers play their home games at Amerant Bank Arena, 1 Panther Parkway, Sunrise. The Sunrise site was selected in June 1996, and the project became a fast-track build. In July 1996, Alex Muxo gathered more than a dozen architects, engineers and contractors for the first major design session. The arena had to be finished by August 30, 1998, ready for the fall hockey season.
Architects Ellerbe Becket accepted a 26-month timeframe, even though none of their previous facilities had taken less than 31 months. Walter "Budge" Upton directed the construction team of Centex/Rooney Huber, Hunt & Nichols and Morse Diesel. For months, crews worked two shifts, including weekends.
The bowl was fitted with theatre-style cushioned seats. Its seventy suites average more than 650 square feet, and the arena describes them as the largest in the country for this type of facility. The building was meant to reflect the team's youthful, confident character and to host a full range of entertainment.
Inside the Boards and Pantherland
Inside the Boards is on the Plaza Level near section 122. It sells game-used, game-issued and locker room-issued items, including autographed memorabilia, sticks and authentic jerseys. Warm-up pucks from each Panthers home game go straight from the ice to the store. The Pantherland team store is in the main lobby on the Plaza level.
