Golden State Warriors Tickets and Club History

The franchise started life as the Philadelphia Warriors and carried that name from 1946 to 1962. They won the BAA's inaugural championship in 1947, an early marker for a club now counted as a seven-time NBA champion. Their 2018 title completed back-to-back crowns and a third in four years.

In 1962 the team became the San Francisco Warriors, and it has played as the Golden State Warriors since the 1971-72 season. The regional name suits a club that calls itself "The Bay's Team", having staged home games in Daly City, Oakland, Richmond, San Francisco and San Jose.

A Home Court That Moved Around the Bay

Few NBA clubs have used as many home buildings. The early Bay Area seasons were shared between venues:

  • 1962-64: Cow Palace and USF Memorial Gym
  • 1964-67: San Francisco Civic Auditorium, alongside USF Memorial Gym and then the Cow Palace
  • From 1967-68: Oakland Coliseum Arena joined the rotation
  • 1971-96: Oakland Coliseum Arena as the main home
  • 1996-97: a season at San Jose Arena
  • 1997-2019: The Arena in Oakland, later known as Oracle Arena

The Oakland building was renamed the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Arena in 1981. The club also played split home schedules in 1964, 1967 and 1975, plus selected games at San Jose Civic Auditorium, Oakland Civic Auditorium and Richmond Auditorium.

Building Chase Center

In May 2012, co-chairmen Joe Lacob and Peter Guber announced plans for a privately financed arena in San Francisco. Two years later the club chose 11 acres of private land in Mission Bay, purchased from Salesforce. Local backing followed in 2015, including unanimous approval from the San Francisco Planning Commission.

The Chase Center name was announced in January 2016. Mortenson/Clark took over the site in January 2017, and the groundbreaking ceremony followed on January 17. The project was presented as the only fully privately financed US arena or stadium on private land in two decades, built without public subsidies.

Doors opened with a ribbon cutting on September 3, 2019, ending a seven-year process. Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony played the grand opening concert that month. Opening Night in 2019 brought the first Warriors game in San Francisco since 1971, with former Warrior Joe Ellis ringing a cable car bell.

Choosing Where to Sit

Chase Center also hosts the Golden State Valkyries and holds over 200 pieces of museum-quality art. Several premium spaces are tied to specific seating areas:

  • Chase Club: for tickets in Sections 2-23
  • United Globe Club: Sections 101-106, one of the largest club spaces
  • Ultra Club: Sections 113-118, with the arena's only two-story bar
  • JP Morgan Club: VIP AA and VIP BB ticket holders
  • Modelo Cantina: open to all fans via stairs at Portal 40 on the upper concourse, with expansive views of the court

Outside, Thrive City offers 11 acres of public plazas, restaurants and shops, created by the Warriors and Kaiser Permanente. The arena holds LEED Platinum certification for operations and maintenance.
