R&B concert tickets and the birth of soul
Rhythm and blues fed straight into soul. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame credits Ray Charles with combining gospel and blues into a genre that did not yet exist, which is why he is called the Genius of Soul. Aretha Franklin, the first woman inducted into the Hall, made recordings that defined soul music; she was only twenty-five when her 1967 version of Otis Redding's "Respect" earned her the title Lady Soul. Redding was a titan of the style in his own right, and his live performances crackled with energy.
Motown polish and concept albums
The Supremes were Motown's first and most commercially successful girl group, glamorous and so popular that they rivalled the Beatles. Marvin Gaye, who began his solo career in 1962 after drumming for Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, used his honeyed tenor to explore sexuality and social issues on ambitious albums such as What's Going On.
A stage tradition
Few venues tell the story better than Harlem's Apollo. Since opening in 1914 and starting its Amateur Night contests in 1934, it has played a major part in the rise of jazz, R&B, gospel, blues and soul, and artists including James Brown, Gladys Knight, Luther Vandross, D'Angelo and Lauryn Hill began their road to stardom on its stage.
Choosing your seats
Much of an R&B show rests on the singer and the band, so a clear line of sight to centre stage matters more than being right at the front. Seated theatres suit slower, vocal-led sets, while arena floors and standing rooms bring more of a party feel. We compare ticket sellers so you can weigh those options and prices together. How much are R&B tickets?
Prices depend on the date, the venue and where you sit.
Is it safe to buy R&B tickets through TixChoice?
TixChoice compares listings from ticket sellers and does not sell tickets itself. You buy from the seller you choose, and each seller sets its own guarantee, refund and delivery terms, so check these before you buy.
Will my R&B tickets be seated together?
Each listing shows whether its seats are sold together. If you are buying for a group, check this on the listing before you go through to the seller.
Do R&B ticket prices include fees?
Sellers add booking fees at checkout. Turn on the fees switch on the event page to see each listing's price including fees, so you compare the real total.
Are R&B tickets cheaper last-minute?
Sometimes. Prices can drop close to the event if seats are left unsold, but there is no guarantee: high demand can push prices up as the date nears.
