Boston Bruins tickets and a long hockey tradition

Boston became the NHL’s first American franchise in 1924, when Charles Adams was granted a club and selected the Bruins name. Stanley Cup championships followed in 1929, 1939, 1941, 1970, 1972 and 2011, creating milestones across different generations of Boston hockey.

Ray Bourque’s years in Boston

Ray Bourque was selected by the Bruins in the 1979 draft and made an immediate impression. His debut season brought the Calder Trophy and a place on the NHL’s First All-Star Team. He went on to win the Norris Trophy five times, recognising his contribution as a defenceman.

Bourque’s uniform number became part of club history too. In 1987, when the Bruins honoured Phil Esposito, Bourque removed his number seven jersey to reveal number seventy-seven beneath it. The gesture allowed Esposito’s number to be retired while establishing the number most closely associated with Bourque’s Boston career.

He captained the Bruins for twelve seasons, from 1988-89 through 1999-2000. Boston reached the Stanley Cup Final in 1988 and 1990 during his time with the team. Bourque later moved to Colorado, won the Cup there and entered the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004, after a career largely shaped by his long Boston chapter.

Cam Neely and the power-forward era

Cam Neely joined Boston from Vancouver in a 1986 trade. His increased role with the Bruins brought a major rise in goalscoring, and his combination of size, strength and finishing made him a prominent power forward. The club reached two Finals with him in the lineup, facing Edmonton on both occasions.

Injuries interrupted Neely’s career, limiting him severely for two seasons before his 1993-94 return. He scored fifty goals in forty-nine games that year and received the Masterton Trophy for perseverance and dedication. His Boston years included three fifty-goal seasons, making goalscoring a defining part of his Bruins legacy.

Neely retired in 1996. The Bruins retired his number eight in January 2004, adding it to a group of honoured numbers associated with players such as Bobby Orr, Johnny Bucyk, Phil Esposito and Bourque. These individual careers sit within the club’s broader history rather than belonging to one championship season alone.

Watching the Bruins at TD Garden

TD Garden opened in September 1995 in Boston’s West End. It is home to both the Bruins and the Boston Celtics, bringing two major sporting traditions into the same building. Its address is 100 Legends Way.

The arena’s Hub Vision project introduced a centre-hung high-definition scoreboard and a renewed audio system in 2021. Screens beneath the main display were included for spectators sitting closer to the playing area, alongside ring displays above it.
