About Newcastle vs Sunderland Tickets

Newcastle United against Sunderland is the Tyne-Wear derby: Tyneside against Wearside, with black and white facing red and white. At St James’ Park, the fixture brings a regional rivalry into Newcastle’s city-centre football ground. The clubs’ own memories of these games show how closely the match connects players with supporters beyond the stadium.

The Halloween meeting in 2010 became a landmark for Newcastle. Kevin Nolan scored a hat-trick and Shola Ameobi also scored twice, with Chris Hughton managing the home side. Newcastle had returned to the Premier League after winning the Championship the previous season. Nolan’s treble was the first Newcastle derby hat-trick since Peter Beardsley in 1985.

Alan Shearer’s connection with the fixture began as a supporter visiting St James’ Park before he became a Newcastle player. After joining his hometown club in 1996, he later scored a home derby free-kick during the 2002–03 campaign. His final professional appearance also came against Sunderland, away at the Stadium of Light, where he scored a penalty in a Newcastle victory. Those moments connect the rivalry with different stages of the striker’s career, from childhood visits to his final match. He also captained Newcastle in the derby, experiencing the rivalry as both a local player and club leader.

St James’ Park seating guide

The Milburn Stand takes its name from Jackie Milburn and replaced the old West Stand. The East Stand occupies the opposite side, while the Gallowgate and Leazes ends complete the ground’s familiar stand names. The Milburn replacement opened in 1988 after the earlier structure was demolished in 1987.

Visiting supporters sit on Level 7. The club describes a substantial stair climb to that level, with lift assistance available through stewards for visitors who need it. Turnstiles are identified on the ticket, and stewards are positioned around the seating decks.
